Wound Care Hints
- Use foam dressings on Stage 3 - 4 or surgical sites ONLY where exudate is moderate or heavy. Foam dressings are absorbent NOT a pressure relief device.
- Collagen dressing release protein into the wound bed and can absorb 30 times its weight to promote healing.
- Use skin prep on surrounding tissue or where adhesive may break down skin. Keep the surrounding tissue intact.
- Choose a secondary dressing that protects the primary dressing from incontinence.
- Some dressings are entirely coated with adhesive which can disturb tissue on removal. Choose the correct dressing to keep skin intact.
